Iceland’s second whole-day walkout on Oct. 24 had tens of thousands of women and the Prime Minister of Iceland participating. The event mirrored the 1975 protest when 90% of Icelandic women united to demand gender equality in pay and workplace conditions. Protests like these have lowered Iceland’s pay gap to 10.2%, compared to the 33% global gap. America should follow Iceland’s lead by holding similar demonstrations to bring tangible change in gender equality at work. These walkouts are crucial for raising awareness, building solidarity, and advocating for significant policy reforms. (Emma Yin)
