Cartoon: FDA approves slaughter-free meat

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just approved Upside Foods’ lab-grown, “slaughter-free” chicken as safe to eat. Lab-grown meat has only been approved for consummation in Singapore. It is grown from cells taken from the animal and then in a controlled environment, resulting in “meat” that is biologically similar but made without the slaughtering of animals. This product needs additional clearance from the Department of Agriculture in order to be sold to consumers, a process that experts predict to take months.  (Emma Yin)
