Cartoon: Generation Alpha influencers

Many children dream of being influencers. Some, such as 7-year-old twins Koti and Haven Garza, are already internet-famous. On their TikTok account “Garza Crew,” run by their mother, Adrea Garza, they’ve gathered 4.8 million followers. With the increase in child influencers, some accuse parents of taking advantage of their children to earn income. Others worry the children are maturing too quickly. Garza assured that she has used income gained from the account for the girls’ benefit, has taken measures to protect their privacy, and never forced them to keep posting. However, even the precautions taken by Garza are not enough to ensure a child’s protection online, especially for young girls. As most of the followers of young girl accounts are men, parents must be highly cautious of their children’s accounts if they allow them to post online. (Keira Sarmiento)
