Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 hurricane that devastated Puerto Rico in September of 2017, is widely known as one of the worst natural disasters in history to affect the Caribbean. Almost exactly five years later, Hurricane Fiona, a Category 4 hurricane hit Puerto Rico, knocking out the power grid and leaving many areas underwater and homes inhabitable. Many generations of Puerto Ricans are still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Maria such as economic depression, a population drop of about 14%, communication blackouts, and infrastructure rebuilding. Puerto Ricans, old to small have not recovered yet from Hurricane Maria and are now being devastated again due to Hurricane Fiona. (Emma Yin)
