Welcome to Beyond the Surface, hosted by Inaaya Omer. During the course of this series she’ll be joined by a new guest in each episode to talk about their experiences and their perspective on being a minority, from an immigrant family, or even just from a different culture or background.
In this episode, Inaaya is joined by Carlmont junior Elisa Luo-Wimmer who shares her experiences growing up in a multi-racial family. Her mom is a Mongolian and Chinese, and her dad is German. She talks about the struggles of feeling out of place in the cultural settings she grew up with. Elisa also explains the ways that she dealt with those feelings in order to put herself first.
