Cartoon: Warning! Japan releases treated water from nuclear plant disaster

Japan has started the release of treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster of 2011 into the ocean. According to Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), only 30 percent of the 473,000 tons of water have undergone complete treatment. This decision has sparked controversy in the region, especially among Japanese citizens concerned about potential ocean and marine species harm. The Japanese government should consider other alternatives for the disposal of this wastewater other than releasing it into the environment. (Emma Yin)
